What We Treat / Procedures
Cancer surgery
an operation to remove part of your body to diagnose or treat cancer — remains the foundation of cancer treatment. Whether you opt to undergo additional cancer treatment depends on your type of cancer, its stage and your overall health status. Cancer surgery is done for various reasons: To remove the cancerous tissue if it is localized and hasn’t spread. At times surgery is used to improve your quality of life rather than to treat the cancer itself — for example, to relieve pain caused by a tumor that's pressing on a nerve or bone or to remove a tumor that's blocking your intestine. Certain cancer surgeries are done in order to define the how advanced the cancer is – this is called staging. As part of staging sometimes the surrounding lymph nodes are tested to evaluate if the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. Surgery is often combined with other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation. Occasionally normal tissue is removed in order to prevent cancer from occurring in those organs in patients who have a genetic disease that can cause cancer. Some of the cancers that we treat at Bakson’s Multispecialty hospital are:
Mastectomy
is the removal of all or part of the breast. Mastectomies are usually done to treat breast cancer. There are several types of mastectomies, including the following:
Partial (segmental) mastectomy
involves the removal of the breast cancer and a larger portion of the normal breast tissue around the breast cancer.
Total (or simple) mastectomy
in which the surgeon removes the entire breast, including the nipple, the areola (the colored, circular area around the nipple), and most of the overlying skin, and may also remove some of the lymph nodes under the arm, also called the axillary lymph glands.
Modified radical mastectomy,
in which the surgeon removes the entire breast (including the nipple, the areola, and the overlying skin), some of the lymph nodes under the arm, and the lining over the chest muscles. In some cases, part of the chest wall muscles is also removed.
Urologic Cancers
Urologists and Cancer surgeons treat kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, penile cancer, ureteral and renal pelvic cancers, retroperitoneal and pelvic sarcomas, Wilms' tumors, pediatric sarcomas, and other cancers.
Whipple Procedure (Pancreaticoduodenectomy)
This is a complex surgery commonly used to treat cancer or other growths in or on the pancreas. The Head and Neck cancers are treated at Bakson’s Multispecialty Hospital by highly qualified head and neck oncologists and advance technologies to treat patients suffering from all types of cancers in the head and neck area Lip and oral cavity cancer is a disease in which malignant cancer cells are formed in the tissues of the lips and the mouth. This cancer affects the tongue, the floor of mouth, palate, the gums, the cheek and teeth. It is considered one of the worst types of cancer. Nasopharyngeal cancer occurs in the small area located behind a person’s nose and above the back of the throat. Nasopharyngeal cancer starts at the nasopharynx and is tough to detect. Early cancer of vocal cord is one such condition. Paranasal sinus and nasal cavity cancer, occurs when cancer cells develop in the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses tissue. Oropharyngeal Cancer is a disease where the cancer cells are found in the tissues of the area that connects the oral cavity to the upper part of the neck.
